If a P1 can handle being abused by Clarkson at Spa for what we can assume was more than an hour, why did their car go flambe while being hooniganed? That just seemed like a pathetic excuse to put forward. What, is your car not built to be hooned like that?

Because the Zenvo is more than likely a terrible vehicle.

It does make me wonder. If you're presenting a product to the world, especially via Top Gear wouldn't you run it into the ground before hand? Attempt to break it in every way possible before you give it to TG, because they WILL do exactly the same.

Top Gear UK aint known for being a factual show though, not that I doubt that a Scandinavian car caught on fire.

Think about McLaren, and how it's basically run by robots that make robotic cars that are so fast, a man would risk changing his name over it. The Zenvo is very creative, but it isn't nearly as advanced. Besides, most stories about it involve a crash .

Maybe it's secretly just trying to cover it's tracks and kill everyone that dares to get into it and discover it's secret?

I think the only rational explanation is that the combination of JC and this car was just too much for it to handle and it spontaneously combusted due to pure awesomeness. Anti-matter and shit yo.

True, but do you think they'd like and set the car on fire to make a story? Imagine if something like that got out to the media. TG and the BBC would be sued into oblivion for the libelest statements they've made about every single car they've ever looked at.

They did something similar with the Tesla Roadster. But No, I don't think they would pull something like this.

The problem with supercars is that the ones that demand this sort of price tag are typically the top of what they are: the best of the technology and brand and engineering behind it all. Even the La Ferrari is only 5% more likely to catch on fire than a 458, which is a huge leap.

In a world where Teslas and Icons have found their niche and dozens of "supercar" brands rise and fall every few years...you'd think people would realize this isn't the get rich quick scheme it appears to be on paper.

Not really an excuse but one is McLaren and the other is not. Obviously the P1 has the backing and testing of McLaren and the Zenvo does not.

This is the main difference between the larger supercar manufacturers and the little companies that pop up and don't make the big scene, how much money you can afford to throw at the car to make sure it is perfect. McLaren can't afford for theP1 to be known as unreliable, Zenvo can't afford not to get the car out there and sold quickly. If the P1 had broken down then we would have heard about it (but I'm willing to bet the McLaren had a full engineering team at the track that day).

Because they're probably assuming that most people who can afford it are just going to pootle about on a Saturday night in front of some hotel or casino in the south of France.
